Bush Gothic & Mountains
of Soul, Gariwerd Singers
Australia's most surprising post-modern bush band comes to Ararat as part of their National tour, supported by local choir Mountains Of Soul.
Immersed in high art and low culture Bush Gothic form one of Australia’s most commanding bands. Guest soloist with Melbourne Symphony Chamber, band leader and fiddle-singer Jenny M. Thomas is joined by double bassist Dan Witton and drummer Chris Lewis in what they describe as a postmodern bush band.
Special guests ‘Mountains of Soul, Gariwerd Singers’ are a choir who gaze at the foothills of Gariwerd whilst filling the air with song. Expect deep, aching balladry and cathartic harmony.
In celebration of their new album release ‘What Pop People Folk This Popular’ Bush Gothic are touring Australia. There are songs you almost certainly know and some you possibly may not – but they’re all reinvented in ways that will pleasantly twist your mind and move you. Invited to perform at some of the world’s most prestigious of art festivals they have developed an international cult following amongst those who like their pop intelligent and their folk dark. Smashing archaic notions of what Australian folk is, their radical re-interpretations of well known songs dare you to hum along but you may end up crying.
BBC Music Magazine gave them 5 STARS, they are multiple Best Music Weekly Award winners at The Adelaide Fringe and winner of Best Band at the 2022 Australian Folk Awards.
