Ararat Rural City Council and partner, Ararat Theatre Company, invite audiences to come along for Ararat’s annual One Act Play Festival on Saturday 3 August.
All tickets – $12 – available at the door only.
Session 1 starts at 2pm
Session 2 starts at 7pm
The Ararat One Act Play Festival offers a wonderful opportunity for non-professional theatre companies to come together and demonstrate their skills in a high-quality event, as well as access a share of trophies and prizes to the value of $1600.

This year, Penny Harpham will be our adjudicator. Penny is the co-Artistic Director of Western Edge Youth Arts and is also the Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of independent theatre company, She Said Theatre. She is a Directing graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts, where she won the Barbara Manning Scholarship for Excellence and the Global Atelier Scholarship for overseas travel. Her passion for new writing and experimental performance form has seen her work as a performer and director with companies across Australia and internationally including Bell Shakespeare, Malthouse Theatre, Red Stitch Actors Theatre, Griffin Theatre, Hothouse Theatre, Platoon Kunsthalle (Berlin), TheaterRampe (Stuttgart), Mullae Arts Space (Seoul), BATS Wellington and many more. She has won a Green Room Award (The SBSB), been nominated for a Green Room Award (HART), won multiple awards at Adelaide, Melbourne and NZ Fringe Festivals and was selected to partake in Melbourne Theatre Company’s Women in Theatre Program (2019), Melbourne Festival’s Director’s Lab (2016) and Playwriting Australia’s Director’s Studio (2015). For She Said Theatre she most recently directed HART (national and NZ tour) and Fallen (with Sport for Jove Theatre at The Seymour Centre Sydney in 2017 and reimagined and performed as an independent She Said Theatre production at fortyfiveDownstairs in 2018). She has worked extensively as a director, teaching artist and workshop facilitator in the youth arts sector through Western Edge Youth Arts, St Martins Youth Arts, Footscray Community Arts Centre, Signal Arts and La Boite Theatre Company.
This year the Ararat One Act Play Festival will showcase some of Victoria’s finest amateur theatre companies including Flashlight Theatre Company, Coburg Players, Theatre Box, Dizzy Productions, Here There and Everywhere Theatre Company,
